The question everyone asks

How the materials compare.

The most common question we hear is simply "what's the difference?" Here's a side-by-side on the things that actually matter, cost, heat, scratch resistance, repairability, shaping and outdoor use.

Notes. Natural stone varies by type, granite and quartzite are hard and heat-tough, while marble is softer and can etch. Porcelain / ceramic and ultra-compact are closely related sintered surfaces; ultra-compact is typically the densest and toughest. Acrylic and solid surface are the same material (acrylic plus mineral fillers), its stand-outs are seamless joins, repairability and being thermoformable into curves. Whatever the surface, a trivet or board is still wise for very hot pans.
